SAFEGUARDING

Promoting a Safer Church

The Vision Statement of the Church is:

Living the Love of Jesus and making him known

In fulfilling this vision the Church:

  • Welcomes children, young people and adults at risk into the life of our community
  • Has a programme of activities with children, young people and adults at risk
  • Makes our premises available to organisations working with children, young people and adults at risk

As members of this church we commit ourselves to the nurturing, protection and safeguarding of all children, young people and adults at risk associated with the church, by praying for them regularly and by keeping aware of decisions that may affect them. In pursuit of this we commit ourselves to the following policies and to the development of procedures to ensure their implementation.

Prevention and reporting of abuse

It is the duty of each church member and each member of the wider church family to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional or spiritual abuse of children, young people and adults at risk and the duty of all to respond to concerns about the well-being of children, young people and adults at risk and to report any abuse disclosed, discovered or suspected. The church will fully co-operate with any statutory investigation into any suspected abuse linked with the church.

All information regarding Safeguarding is documented in the Enfield Baptist Church Policy for Safeguarding Children, Young People and Adults at Risk.

There are four key words/actions that support the responsibility of all members of the church community:

Recognise – any signs of abuse e.g. physical, emotional, sexual, neglect etc. (See Appendix 1 of the Policy for Safeguarding Children, Young People and Adults at Risk for further information).
Respond- by listening well and then tell the designated person for safeguarding in the church as soon as possible, within 24 hours.
Record- make notes of any concerns, date and sign the note. (See Appendix 2 of the Policy for Safeguarding Children, Young People and Adults at Risk for further information).
Report- give a copy of that note to the designated person for safeguarding in the church.
